Raintree Nutrition are an awesome company in the USA who for 16 years have been improving people's health while simultaneously protecting the Amazon rainforest.
They've done this by importing some of the many safe and highly effective medicinal plants that grow in the Amazon - this gives local people a viable economic alternative to chopping down the forest for timber and pasture.
One of our Happy Herb Shop owners in the US just received this sad message from them:
"We are sadden to inform you that Raintree Nutrition is going out of business. As many of you are aware, we have been prohibited by the FDA of importing our bulk plant materials in from the Amazon to manufacture our products over the last year. Between the additional high costs in meeting new GMP standards, the falling US dollar affecting our import prices, and battling the FDA over our website while still providing our customers with important factual information about our products, we simply cannot go on any longer."
What exactly do the FDA really do?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is supposed to keep Americans safe from dangerous substances in their food and medicines. However, death resulting from the use of pharmaceutical drugs is still one of the leading causes of death in the states, killing tens of thousands of people people every year #1">1. This is while sick people are repeatedly prevented from accessing natural health products by the FDA. Many believe that this is due to the influence of multinational companies that manufacture synthetic drugs.
Dr. David Graham, former Associate Director for Science and Medicine in the Office of Drug Safety at the FDA, revealed staggering levels of corruption within the organisation when he spoke out against his employers #2">2. They had ignored warnings about a drug's safety, and it ended up killing roughly 100,000 people.
In this interview he said:
"As currently configured, the FDA is not able to adequately protect the American public. It's more interested in protecting the interests of industry. It views industry as its client, and the client is someone whose interest you represent. ... [Y]ou get this culture of cover-up, this culture of suppression, this culture of denial, and this culture that demonstrates above all else that industry is the client and not the American people."
If the FDA and pharmaceutical industry's agenda is not clear by now, ponder this - since 1985 the FDA have conducted at least 50 armed SWAT-style raids on food supplement suppliers and natural health practitioners, seizing vast amounts of goods and property #3">3. One man who had cured himself of cancer using natural means was kidnapped from his clinic in Mexico and illegally held in prison for two years.
Where to from here?
We at the Happy Herb Company would like to take this opportunity to salute Raintree Nutrition for all of the fantastic work they've done to promote natural medicine and conserve one of the Earth's most vitally important ecosystems.
We also urge everybody who reads this to think - about what you're putting into your body, about where it comes from, and about who you choose to put your trust in.
Watch this space for the emergence of the Plant Freedom Alliance, where we'll be working to get people educated, empowered, and activated for the herbal cause!
