Hey Alice, interesting question as this herb is botanically part of the poppy family – Papaveraceae. But it is not actually an opiate! It is non-addictive and is actually used to help people overcome opiate withdrawal symptoms and can help people who suffer from PTSD. It is an amazing plant that has been used traditionally by native Americans, and now the rest of the world, for sleep, stress and pain. It is a herb I use often to support sound sleep. It grows really well in cold climates in Australia and can tolerate some sub-tropical growing zones but is unlikely to do well in Tropical zones. Hope this info helps and don’t hesitate to ask more questions. Thanks, Nick
