Vitality, by definition, is “the power giving continuance of life, present in all living things.”

Your body needs some extra TLC right now, more than ever. As a collective, we are living in an uncertain state and being forced to suddenly adapt to major changes.

Managing your body’s stress response and bringing your overall vitality closer to its optimal levels are essential for navigating this unpredictable time, and making you better equipped to respond should you fall ill.

Consistent Sleep

Sleep is indeed one of the best medicines. Maintaining a healthy and consistent sleep schedule is a key ingredient in achieving your highest state of vitality. It provides essential time for recovery and restoration, and is what fuels your body to power through the day. Gentle nervine herbs such as valerian, chamomile and passionflower can promote restful and restorative sleep. Stronger sedative herbs such as California Poppy may also be helpful.

Exercise

Get your system going! Just because you’re stuck at home and gyms are closed doesn’t mean you can’t get your blood flowing– go outside for a walk/jog, practice yoga, dance around your living room! It is super important to exercise every day, even a little bit, for optimal vitality.

Meditation & Breathwork

Don’t forget to breathe. Daily meditation, ideally at the beginning of the day close to when you wake up and/or at the end of the day before sleep, is a great way to check in with your body and remain centered amongst the chaos of the external world. Hydration + Wholefoods

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. Bulk up on nutritious food (ideally organic and local when possible!) and drink lots of water. Limit sugar and dairy intake, and be sensitive to your gut’s unique needs– listen to what it tells you! Sounds simple, but it can make all the difference. Hemp seeds, chia seeds, cacao, etc. — plant-based super foods are great to add extra essential nutrients to your diet.
